Falling in love in a bar might sound cliche, but what if it was combined with gritty electric guitar riffs and an infectiously fast beat? Deify’s new single, “Feel My Love,” does just that — presenting an all-too-familiar narrative that takes on classic rock and gives it a modern pop twist. Today, we’re dropping an exclusive premiere of the track, which goes live on all streaming platforms tomorrow.
The Seattle duo — brothers Duncan and Jared Byargeon — have made an epic return to the music scene after their debut album X, released in July of 2019. While X was heavy and sweaty rock ‘n’ roll, the brothers decided to take a different approach this time around. “We really wanted to put out more positivity with our music, especially during these challenging times,” said Duncan. The single does just that: It takes feel-good, carefree vibes and churns them into a three-minute groovy ode to the person across the bar.
At the start of the track, a surfy, pop drum fill is quickly joined with groovy electric guitar. Vocals enter with expository lyrics: “Headed to the bar when I saw your face / I knew then that it had to be fate.” As the track unfolds, Deify presents a fun, frantic story about falling in love at first sight and pursuing it like nothing else matters.
The sweet, pre-choral lyrics, “Everytime you look over at me / My heart skips a beat and I find it hard to breathe,” come in strong before the titular chorus: “Can you feel my / feel my love.” A monumental guitar solo takes over at the bridge, adding to the lively, wild, carefree tone—an instrumental equivalent to the lyrics that symbolizes letting loose and following your heart.
With high-energy instrumentals and an easy-flowing tone, “Feel My Love,” serves as a great bit of positive escapism during an immensely stressful time. This quirky, comedic tale of unexpected love — produced by Xstitch (formerly Emperidol) — brings Deify back into the game after a brief hiatus with a package of positivity perfect for everybody’s quarantine playlist.
