On December 21, Our Dead Fathers is set to release their new LP, Our Dead Fathers II. The group, comprised of loud rock musicians taking to a softer side of the genre, appropriately dubs itself “bootgaze:” Meyer’s gruffly serenading voice weaves stories throughout the record, both through the tales he tells in words and through the clear, raw, rampant emotion that spools out of him. Underneath, loud rock influences scale back to create a wall of instrumentation that ebbs and flows with Meyer, at times washing over him and at times cascading into the background.
In this month’s episode of Unwritten, Meyer and host Andrey Psyche dig into the importance of and influence from family, the effects of streaming on full-length albums, and the mental journey of becoming a confident, successful musician. Stay tuned until the end to hear Meyer and Psyche collaborate on an improv song that makes these new friends sound like they’ve been playing together for years.
