Releasing his second album, Enter The Dragon (ETD), Mundy of OABN gives us a sonic experience of a live action movie. Inspired by the Bruce Lee film “Enter The Dragon,” the album loops in interludes of scenes from the film and cultural stamps as Mundy taps into his Seattle roots. The album is packed with Asian influence as producer Rob Reeves embeds chimes and Japanese language into the underlays of the vocals. The album isn’t only homage to a Seattle great, but it’s an album of a future legend.
Every track on ETD holds a magic that gives a unique mystic energy as Mundy adds features of electric guitars and infuses the sounds of spoken word. Earworms like “Bubble Tea” have hooks that are crafted to stick in your head for days: “how many drinks you want?” We also hear how two sounds can come together to make a mesmerizing song with Del’s feature on this track. His reggae accent adds an extra flare to his vocalization and lyricism, changing the dynamic of the song, hypnotizing you with his exotic melody and enticing energy.
“Katana” continues this energy exploring a new genre of pop, giving me Michael-Jackson-meets-Mundy vibes as we hear vocalist Daym on the track. Lyrics like “one day we are going to settle down / free emotions like a playground” show how Mundy takes a turn out of how many drinks to how many kids. He talks more than the regular booty and lust. He talks about what real men should talk about: marriage and the comfort of a woman.
The album is so well layered with diverse sounds that when you listen you will feel like you have entered into a movie. Each layer brings a scene in an action film with kicks and love.
Great body of work. Mundy is definitely a true artists. Very Talented! Great article! Very well written.
