Mirrorgloss, a dance-rock band out of Seattle, is the project of Del Brown and Najamoniq Todd. Brown was born in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Seattle in 2003. Coming out of Memphis, she found her escape through music. Todd moved her way to Washington after stints in California, Florida, and South Carolina. She finally found a home in Seattle, where she met Brown and originated the band Mirrorgloss.

Q: What does “Mirrorgloss” mean?

Todd:  It started as a car color. From there, we made the words into what we wanted them to mean.

Brown: Meaning to shine and be comfortable in your own skin and allowing yourself to be a positive force.

Q: When did you decide to become a band?

Todd: It happened organically! I believe the universe helped push us in the direction we are in now. Starting with four members — one being Danny Kenny — may he rest in peace. We all got together and all started to bounce ideas off of one another. Del’s and I’s story is different though. I knew she was going to be my best friend as soon as I saw her picture on Myspace. We had mutual friends, and, once we saw each other in person, we ran up to each other crying and knew we were gonna be best friends forever. Now, 14 years later, here we are.

Q: What’s your remedy before a show?

Brown: No remedies! I get very quiet and focused. I like to give natural energy so it can be transparent with connection to the audience.

Todd: I take a second to collect myself and remember how lucky I am to do this, remembering all the times I was at a show and how it inspired me. Also, remembering how grateful I am to do this with my best friend.

Q: What is the vibe you are trying to present to the audience?

Brown: I really want people to feel love and have fun. No matter what race they are and gender, I want them to feel included.

Todd: Forget yourself and just have fun! We’re always trying to be something, and, when we listen to music, it’s pure and not hindered by anything in life. So be happy and have a good time. The last single we dropped on Spotify, “I Feel Free,” really embodies that vibe.

Q: Any tours coming up?

Todd: Local shows, no tour!

Brown: We are currently about performing locally and promoting music. We also just recorded a music video that will drop soon! Right now we are collecting beats and planning to drop new music every month.

Q: What about an album?

Brown: Mythological album right now. We’re just hoping to drop as many singles as possible all summer.
