In the young rapper Langston Doobs’s music video for his single “Hiii-er,” we’re hypnotized into the mythical world that he inhabits. Doobs, a Seattle native artist, along with Neighborhood Watch, dropped the visuals for his mellow track on November 8th, gifting fans an intoxicating experience. The BeatsbyEmani track was first released about a year ago but is now better equipped with Doobs starring as the lead character in a fantasy land.

The haziness and the bright illuminating colors in the video are enough effects to give “Hiii-er” a life of its own. We hear Doobs repetitively croon the line “you gon’ pass that weed to me, and we all gon’ get higher” throughout the track, matching that same hazy energy with his simple sway against the backdrop of bright red colors or zoomed-in on the backseat of the homie’s whip. The synchronization is effortless as cinematographer Luis Perez crafts his vision on Doobs’ single with satisfying textures. At one point, the Seattle rapper is laying on a bag of weed, floating in the abyss of weed clouds, jamming along to the solemn bells that animate the track — a metaphor of sorts, if you will.

“Hiii-er” may be a short track in length at just under two-and-a-half minutes, but the beat continues to echo on in imagination, even after the song concludes. Doobs shies away from diving too far into a lengthy verse, as it may be distracting from the song’s addicting hook.

The artist’s take on a form of hip-hop that utilizes harmonization and bars is respectable. The melodically driven track is relatable to the style of hip-hop that is relevant today but also develops its own identity. Recreational marijuana is legal in the state of Washington, so it comes as no surprise that Doobs can pay homage to the culture of Seattle’s stoners. If you prescribe yourself to the herb and are a fan of local hip-hop, look no further than Langston Doobs’s visuals for his song “Hiii-er.”
