On June 14th, Chastity Belt frontwoman Julia Shapiro stepped out on her own for a solo performance at Barboza in honor of her recent solo release, Perfect Version. Sun Breaks frontman John Atkins opened for Shapiro, providing a full night of solo, local talent.

John Atkins, of Sun Breaks, opens the night with a solo set.
Atkins's set featured a mixture of original songs and covers, all accentuated by heartfelt, moody vocals.
Atkins takes a moment between verses to strum out some notes.
Atkins chats with the crowd in between songs, explaining that he felt like Pig-Pen from Peanuts as a few flies buzzed around him.
Atkins finishes the set off with some deeply passionate vocals, preparing the crowd for Julia Shapiro.
Following Atkins, Julia Shapiro takes to the stage as music from The Sims 2 soundtrack fills the air.
Shapiro's debut solo album, Perfect Version, was released on June 14th of this year.
Shapiro's heartfelt vocals resonated deeply throughout the crowd.
Shapiro asks the crowd to choose the next song: a Chastity Belt original or an Elliott Smith cover. Shapiro played both, starting with Smith.
Shapiro finishes up the solo portion of her set, which was comprised of songs from her recent album, unrecorded material, and covers of The Lemonheads and Elliott Smith songs.
For the final few songs of her set, Shapiro brought out Chastity Belt bandmate Gretchen Grimm and friend Sacha Maxim to accompany on drums and bass guitar, respectively.
Shapiro closes out the night with a performance of "Natural," off of her new album.
